WORLD BANKNOTES 360 IRAN (PERSIA) Many of Irans Finest Historical Banknotes |
Western
countries generally referred to Iran as Persia prior to March 1935, at which
time Reza Shah requested that the international community refer to the
country by its native name. The
country reversed the decision in 1959, but in official state contexts the
name Iran remains dominant. The shah
was forced into exile in 1979, at which time Iran became an Islamic republic. |
