Banknotes from Peru

Peru established its independence from Spain in 1879, and its Junta Administradora (Junta Administration) began to issue banknotes in that same year.  Junta de Vigilancia began printing banknotes in 1914, Banco de Reserva del Peru in 1922, and Banco Central de Reserva del Peru in 1935.

Few of Peru's early notes appear to have survived, as PMG through October 12, 2009, PMG had graded only five examples prior to 1914.  None of those were in gem condition.  Specimens represent a high percentage of the gem-quality Peru notes graded by PMG.  These specimens were printed by The American Bank Note Company, and many of the surviving examples came from its archive sales.

Below you will find pictures of two superb gem specimens from the collection.
