The earliest banknotes from Honduras (pre-1886) lacked strong design elements and made only limited use of color. Beginning in 1886, however, both the specialized banks and the Banco de Honduras issued many series of well designed and very colorful notes. The outstanding designs mostly disappeared beginning in the 1950s.

PMG’s population report shows an absence of graded notes prior to 1889. The more-recent vintages have strong representation, but many of the notes have only a single note graded. Most of the graded notes are specimens and proofs, and the percentage of those in gem-quality grades is high. The American Bank Note Company archives probably accounted for most of these notes.
