Listed banknotes from Greenland extend back to 1803 when the country was under Danish administration. Most of the early notes lacked vignettes. The 1913 issue of State Notes made use of simple vignettes. Greenland became a colony of the crown in 1924, and the vignettes became more striking beginning with the 1926-52 issue of State Notes and the subsequent 1953-67 issue by Den Kongelige Gronlandske Handel. Colonial status was abolished in 1953, and it became part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Autonomy came in 1979.

Below you will find pictures of some of the Greenland banknotes in the collection. These are specimen notes from the Dutch Administration in 1953-67 and make an attractive set. They are all punch cancelled with the word "Specimen".
