Canada has a very rich history of banknote issuances going back to the Province of Canada issuances of 1866. The Dominion of Canada began issuing notes in 1870 and the Bank of Canada in 1935. The greatest number of issuances, however, is among the specialized banknotes, including those of the French and British Administrations, the provinces, chartered banks, and spurious or expired banks.

The PMG population report shows a very large number of graded banknotes. A high percentage of the Canadian graded notes are issued notes rather than specimens, proofs, or color trials. The earliest issues are quite scarce, and many of the graded early notes are in circulated condition only; this is particularly true with notes from the early charter banks.

Below is a partial list of the banknotes available for sale or trade. Quality scans can be emailed upon request. Many other banknotes are available for sale or trade, so please ask if you have specific wants. All items are subject to prior sale.

Banknotes on our want list include high-grade specimen, proof, and issued notes from any country. Grading by PMG is a plus.
